An organ transplant. Almost 49,000 people in the UK have endured the wait for an organ transplant in the last 10 years and over 6,000, including 270 children, have died before receiving the transplant they desperately needed.
I’m alive thanks to a liver transplant
Hello, my name is Lucinda and on the 16th of August 2017, I received a liver transplant after 15 years of being incredibly sick and a year of waiting
I suffer from a disease called Autoimmune hepatitis Type 2 and over the years, this caused irreversible damage to my liver. My only chance of survival was by having a liver transplant. Unfortunately, as a blood type ‘O’ I was told I might have to wait longer than most people.
While I waited, my health deteriorated, making it possible for me to work, or lead anything like a normal life. I set up We Are Names Not Numbers so that I could share the story of my journey and that of others and focus my campaign efforts for presumed consent.
